Top 2021 CFB Transfers: Wide Receiver

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

At our second stop of this series, we will be reviewing the transfer wide receivers. We will break down the top transfer quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and defense as one group. Each position group will be ranked based on the combination of talent, impact/role on their new team, and previous production. Most, if not all, of these players will be in a competition so their chance to win the competition will also play into the ranking. Let’s jump into this second edition!

1. Wan’Dale Robinson – Nebraska to Kentucky

A former Kentucky national high school player of the year, Robinson is coming home. After briefly committing to Kentucky in high school, he decommited shortly thereafter in favor of Nebraska. After some inconsistent usage at Nebraska and lowly results, he figures to come home where he will be featured in this offense in hopes of fulfilling his NFL dream. Practice reports are already raving about his versatility, and he is consistently ranked as one of the top transfers this offseason. The skills are obvious, it remains to be seen if the production will finally follow.

2. Jameson Williams – Ohio State to Alabama

No bigger opportunity than replacing a slew of draft picks at wide receiver and being on a top 3 team in the country. Jameson Williams has already been receiving praise this camp, even from the head man Nick Saban himself.

“Jameson Williams is a guy that’s really made a big impact in this camp” Said Saban

Williams has the prestige and knowing he was getting great coaching at Ohio State prior; he has the perfect opportunity to jump into a productive role. After already playing in the CFP with Ohio State, he also brings big game experience.

3. Samori Toure – Montana (FCS) to Nebraska

After missing out on the entire 2020 season due to the FCS cancelation of fall football, Toure has been relishing at a chance to play again to achieve the NFL aspirations. Toure brings a multitude of FCS awards and records and nearly 1,500 receiving yards in 2019 to a team that severely lacked a down field threat in 2020. Toure largely played on the outside at Montana, but Nebraska will primarily use him in the slot for his route running ability and hands. He walks into a situation where he can take the starting role immediately and the team desperately needs a downfield threat. Not only does he have great route running ability and hands, but he is also aggressive with the ball in the air. Toure can single handedly change this Nebraska offense for the good.

4. Grant Calcaterra – Oklahoma (retired) to SMU

Okay, this is a little cheating because he is a TE, but a hybrid TE at worst and one of the best pass catchers in the country in a projected prolific offense. We already projected Tanner Mordecai as the top transfer QB, and Calcaterra is a big reason why. After retiring from Oklahoma football due to concussions, he is back healthy and gaining rave reviews from camp. If Calcaterra can stay healthy I expect he puts himself back in the NFL discussion.

5. Charleston Rambo – Oklahoma to Miami

Charleston Rambo has a chance to reinvent himself here in Miami after falling down the depth chart at Oklahoma in 2020. His skillset is exactly what Miami is missing, a player with speed to take the top off the defense. After already having to defend the legs of D’Eriq King, a player to take the top off like that is exactly what Miami needed heading into 2021. Rambo will need to become more well rounded as a receiver if he wants to chase the NFL but a chance to rejuvenate his career is right in front of him for 2021 with a promising role on a team on the rise.
